sensory bins

why sensory play?

"Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction."

what ages are best for this?

These bins are great for children 3+.  Now, I definitely had N doing play like this with me before he was 3, so it depends on your child and your ability to be with them during play (as there are small parts).
The BEST part about these bins is that it is all child led.  There's no end game (although I will add suggestions for you to facilitate as sometimes they need modeling of how to play), there's no time limit, and there is NO wrong way to play!

Are they REALLY learning while they're playing?

Yes! Play Based Learning is CRITICAL in the early years of childhood development. Think about it, it takes the pressure off of learning- because they're having so much fun (so they must not be learning...right?) Wrong! We have to adapt to what is best for our children, not what we think we know, or what you think they'd do in a 'typical' classroom. Fact of the matter is, learning at home is not equal to learning in a classroom with peers.

what are some specific skills my child will learn from rooted sensory's bins?

some examples:

  • pre-math (spatial recognition, patterns)
  • problem solving
  • science, technology and engineering
  • language development
  • independent play
  • pre-literacy
  • fine motor skills
  • dexterity
  • creativity
  • confidence

I incorporate all aspects of learning so you know your child is getting the best of the best. Every child learns differently, the main common factor between my bins is that they will be learning through playing, crafting, having fun, and being creative.
I even provide my own worksheets (with the deluxe bin) which have super fun, age appropriate skills involved.

Best Part?
It's already all put together for you and set up so you can have some comfort and solice in the fact that you are doing your child right!

I also include a book with each bin- the higher tier the bin the more/larger books.  Creating a love for books is so important. Read more on this here

Nature Play is another component that makes Rooted Sensory different. There are an abundance of advantages that come with the emotional, physical and developmental benefits of being outside.   Incorporating nature into your kits helps your child's world explode with connections between their worlds of learning.
